Jim Thorpe is the Poconos' Victorian railroad town: a walkable historic downtown, the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, the Asa Packer Mansion and the gateway to Lehigh Gorge State Park.
The homes below are in Albrightsville (including Towamensing Trails and Indian Mountain Lakes) and Lake Harmony, about 25 to 35 minutes from downtown Jim Thorpe, with lakes, hot tubs and room for the whole group.
Things to do in and around Jim Thorpe
- Bike the Lehigh Gorge Trail: about 26 miles of crushed-stone rail trail, mostly downhill from White Haven to Jim Thorpe. Local outfitters run bike shuttles.
- Raft the Lehigh River: natural-flow trips in spring and October, and dam-release trips on summer weekends.
- Ride the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway from Jim Thorpe Station: fall foliage trains in autumn and Santa trains in the holiday season.
- Tour the Asa Packer Mansion, the 1860s home of the railroad founder. Check hours before you go; it's closed in December.
- Swim, paddle and fish at Mauch Chunk Lake Park, just west of town. The beach is open Memorial Day to Labor Day.
