Camelbeach is the outdoor summer waterpark at Camelback Resort on Camelback Mountain in Tannersville. Camelback calls it Pennsylvania's largest mountain waterpark: 37 rides and slides, the Kahuna Lagoon wave pool, a 1,000-foot lazy river, a FlowRider surf machine and Titan, an eight-story family raft slide nearly three football fields long.

It sits right off I-80 next to Camelback Lodge and the Aquatopia indoor waterpark, and the homes below are about 15 to 25 minutes away, so you can spend the day on the slides and come back to a hot tub, a grill and a full kitchen.

The big rides

  • Titan: the eight-story family raft slide, nearly three football fields long. Up to 4 riders per raft (800 lbs combined); riders under 48" ride with a companion.
  • High Noon Typhoon: a six-story funnel raft ride. Minimum 48", 2 to 4 riders.
  • Triple Venom: three six-story body slides (Cobra, Viper and Serpent). Minimum 48".
  • Vortex and Spin Cycle: a body bowl and a tube bowl, which Camelback says are the only pair of bowl slides in the Northeast. Vortex is 48" and up and needs strong swimmers; Spin Cycle is 48" alone or 36" with a chaperone.
  • Rival Racer: an eight-lane mat racing slide. Minimum 42".
  • Sand Storm and Dune Runner: multi-rider tube slides, 42" and up (42" to 48" with a chaperone).
  • Sidewinder, Riptide, Twister and Midnight Run: dark, enclosed tube slides. 48" alone, or 36" to 48" with an adult.
  • FlowRider: a surf simulator. 42" to boogie board, 48" to stand up.

Pools, the lazy river and little kids

  • Kahuna Lagoon: the wave pool, with what Camelback calls some of the biggest waves in the Northeast. Under 48" must be with an adult and wear a life jacket (free life jackets are available).
  • Blue Nile Adventure River: a 1,000-foot lazy river with waterfalls and geysers, single or double tubes. Kids under 42" need an adult.
  • Pharaoh's Phortress: a family play structure with eight slides, splash features and a 4-story tipping bucket. 36" and up.
  • Mummy's Oasis: the little-kid zone with a big dumping bucket, for kids up to 48" (adults welcome with small children).
  • Olympic Pool: a big swimming pool; swimmers 48" and under need a life jacket and a parent within arm's reach.
  • Scenic chairlift: ride the Black Bear 6 lift for Pocono Mountain views.

Tickets and passes

  • Camelback says day tickets and season passes must be bought online, so buy before you go.
  • Options: single-day and twilight tickets, Fun Packs (4, 8 or 12 tickets used the same day), an Express Pass that skips the lines on the big slides, group tickets and season passes.
  • A "Rain or Shine" add-on lets Camelbeach ticket holders also visit Aquatopia, the indoor waterpark.
  • All sales are final and tickets aren't transferable. If the whole park closes for 90 minutes or more (ending at least 2 hours before closing), you can get a ticket for another day that season.

Cabanas, food and lockers

  • Cabanas for up to 6 (Pharaoh's Front Row, Pharaoh's Phortress, Olympic Pool) or up to 8 and 12 at the Kahuna wave pool, with food and drink service and a locker. Admission isn't included.
  • VIP lounge chairs at the wave pool and on the observation deck, and reservable picnic tables (no grilling).
  • Sit-down and grab-and-go food (pizza, burgers, BBQ, salads), snack stands and food trucks.
  • Digital lockers you set with your own PIN, plus stroller, wagon and wheelchair rentals while supplies last.

What to bring and the park rules

  • Towels: Camelbeach doesn't provide them, so bring one per person. Water shoes or flip-flops are recommended.
  • No coolers, glass, alcohol or outside food. Each person may bring one unopened 20 oz water bottle, and baby food in plastic containers is fine. Bags are checked.
  • Swimwear: a one- or two-piece suit or swim shorts; no thongs, cut-offs or suits with lots of buckles, rivets or zippers. Little ones need swim diaper covers.
  • Children under 14 must be supervised by someone 14 or older. Only US Coast Guard approved flotation (free life jackets are available).

Getting there and parking

Camelbeach is right off I-80 at Tannersville; put 301 Resort Drive, Tannersville, PA 18372 in your GPS. General parking is free, and a premium lot close to the park costs extra. From New York, Martz Trailways buses run from Port Authority to a Tannersville stop at Aquatopia.

Next door: Camelback Lodge and the Aquatopia indoor waterpark (open all year), the Camelback Mountain Adventure Park with ziplines, a mountain coaster and a treetop course, and Big Pocono State Park at the top of the mountain.

Tips for a good day

  • Buy tickets online ahead of time, and reserve a cabana or VIP chairs early if you want guaranteed shade.
  • Check height limits before you promise a ride: many of the big slides need 48".
  • Leave the cooler at the rental home and have a cookout there after the park.
  • Plan for rain: the park stays open in the rain, and the Rain or Shine add-on covers Aquatopia too.
