Common questions

Do I need a permit to rent my Poconos home short-term?

In most Pocono townships, yes. Most require a short-term rental permit or license, usually renewed every year, often with an inspection, an occupancy limit, on-site parking rules, liability insurance and a local contact who can respond quickly. A few townships allow short-term rentals only in certain zoning districts, so check your township's rules before you list.

How do I know which township my home is in?

Your mailing address often names a town that spans several townships (Long Pond, Blakeslee and Albrightsville are examples). Your property tax bill or deed names the actual township. You can also look up your parcel on your county's property map.

Does my HOA or community have its own rules?

Often, yes. Many Pocono lake communities have their own rental registration, fees and rules on top of the township's, and some townships require HOA approval or notice before they issue a permit. See our community registration notes in Host Resources.

What taxes do Pocono short-term rentals pay?

Stays under 30 nights are subject to Pennsylvania's 6% hotel occupancy tax and a county hotel tax (3% in Monroe and Carbon counties). Townships commonly ask for your PA sales tax license and county hotel tax certificate when you apply for a permit.

How often do these rules change?

Often. Fees are usually reset each year, and several townships changed their rules in 2024 to 2026. This guide was checked on October 31, 2026 against each township's own website and ordinances. Always confirm with the township before you rely on a fee or rule.
